IGOR LABZIN'S BOOKS AND TRANSLATIONS - NOVELS ABOUT RUSSIA
Igor Labzin’s books are personal accounts of Russian history.
Read novels about Russia and its history through the eyes of people who experienced it. Igor Labzin’s books are personal accounts of history, both in and outside of Russia. Reading a memoir is a powerful way to experience history where readers can gain a unique insight into the time. Igor’s published novels about Russia capture Russian living before the Revolution. In addition, they detail the lives of ‘White Russians’ during and after the Bolshevik Revolution. White Russians were mostly exiled from Russia after the Civil War. Consequently, Russia lost many families, and many families lost their Russian heritage.
FARAWAY DAYS
Renowned Russian Author Sergei Mintslov wrote Faraway Days in 1918 at the height of the Russian Revolution. However, this autobiography is set in the ‘faraway days’ of Russia during the late 1800’s. It is a novel about Russia in an idyllic time for Mintslov. He remembers a happy and interesting childhood – in stark contrast to the atrocities of war surrounding him. An English translation by Mintslov’s relative Igor Labzin.
RUSSIA & REVOLUTION: MY FATHER, THE OFFICER, THE MAN
Boris is a White Russian officer fighting on the “wrong side” of the revolution. This is his tale. It’s a tale of a powerful Russian family and an officer who spends a life in exile from his homeland. Russia and Revolution, my Father, the Officer, the Man follows the journey of Russian emigre Boris and his family. Exiled from Russia during the civil war, they travel to Shangai, to Indonesia and finally, Australia. Their journey covers some of the most tumultuous times in history. This includes World War II in addition to the independence movement in Indonesia. The memoir is a tribute to Igor’s father. A carefully researched, gripping novel about Russia in perhaps its darkest time.
